Salem – Khismatullin game 1 (08/01/2014)
Salem – Khismatullin 8 game classical time control match has started yesterday.

This is the first match in a series of matches, expecting to commence in the coming two years, which are aimed at giving Salem the opportunity to test his skills against the World famous grandmasters and improve further on his own level of play.

Salem first opponent is Russian grandmaster Denis Khismatullin.
Denis comes from Ufa, Siberian and is renowned for his practical play skills and also for his analytical work capabilities.

In the first game Salem played with the white pieces.

Khismatullin surprised Salem choosing for Caro-Kann defense, normally not seen in Denis opening repertoire and clearly specially prepared for this match as a surprise weapon.

In the opening Khismatullin went for little played 9...hxg4 move (move not seen on a top level before).
Denis was well prepared and has played the opening phase quickly and confidently.
Salem ,taken by surprise, was out out of his opening prepation and was forced to find an 'over the board' solutions as early as move 10 (!) in a strategically very complicated position.

Those circumstances played a decisive role and on the move 12 Salem committed (in a higher sense) a decisive error playing 12. f4 (instead of 12. 0-0-0) ultimately resulting in a position where due to white pawn structure damage guest from Russia obtained a clear strategic advantage.

Once in a 'driving seat' Denis safely brought home a full point.

Game two is today, Khismatullin playing with white pieces.
